Northwest Austin is known for its highly rated schools and its scenic neighborhoods. Many of the homes in this area feature spacious floorplans, numerous mature trees, and stunning views of the hill country. It's also an area that's easily accessible to many tech employers as well as entertainment and shopping areas such as The Doman, The Arboretum, and Lakeline Mall. When Northwest Austin began to develop in the early '70s, the area was considered to be far from the city and was attractive to residents who wanted to get away from the downtown area. Now The Domain is regarded by many as Austin's second downtown.
Most of the homes in Northwest Austin were built starting in the '70s through the early'90s. Many of them were well designed for their time and most have been updated to reflect the standards of today. This was an era of expansive, energy-saving roofs and making the most of natural shade provided by heavily treed lots. An area that was once considered too far to drive is now one of the most highly desired areas in Austin.
